My name’s Carl Gardner - I write freelanceintellectual.com.
I’m obsessed with politics, with books and newspapers, I’m abundantly and unstoppably opinionated and I love the web - so I thought I’d better turn my vices to some sort of decent use by creating this site. At the same time as doing this, I’m writing my first book - while getting distracted by planning my second and third.
Previously I worked as a barrister, advising Tony Blair’s government on European, human rights and public law for over a decade. I now teach at the National School of Government and BPP Law School. And in previous lives I’ve worked in marketing and as a translator from French and German.
I’m originally and unmistakeably from the North, but I’ve been in London for most of the last twenty years. I live in England for many reasons, but real beer and pubs are two of the biggies. Otherwise I have soft spots for Berlin, Avignon and Oxford, Innsbruck, Paris and New York.
As well as dispensing opinion and reviews here, I write about law at Head of Legal, and in my column at Newsvine you can read articles I’ve enjoyed written by others, together with some of my own.
You’re welcome to email me, or find me on Facebook, MySpace or LinkedIn
